Suspect Charged In Death Of Investigator In CA

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Prosecutors have charged a convicted felon with murder in the disappearance and slaying of a federal criminal investigator in Northern California.

The Alameda County District Attorney's Office filed the charges against 56-year-old Randy Alana on Friday. Alana is accused of killing Sandra Coke and stealing her car and account information in August.

He is scheduled to be arraigned at 2 p.m.

Police have said the 50-year-old Coke and Alana dated briefly about 20 years ago. Coke was an investigator with the Sacramento branch of the Federal Public Defender's Office.

She vanished after leaving her Oakland home Aug. 4. Her body was found five days later.

Alana has denied harming Coke, and said the two planned to marry.

Alana has several prior convictions, including for robbery and involuntary manslaughter.
