LONG BEACH (CNS) - A man who allegedly fired a gun at police while being chased on a satellite campus of Long BeachCityCollege was wounded in an officer-involved shooting today.
No officers were injured in the shooting, which happened around 5:30 p.m. on the college's Pacific Coast Campus at Pacific Coast Highway and Orange Avenue, about five miles from LBCC's main campus, according to Marlene Arrona of the Long Beach Police Department.
The suspect is a 26-year-old man who attends the college and just finished taking an exam when the shooting took place, witnesses told the Press-Telegram.
His mother and pastor, who came to the shooting scene, told the newspaper the wounded man's name is Travis Brown.
The suspect was taken to a hospital and is in police custody, Arrona said.
Arrona said she had no immediate information about the suspect's condition or name.
Classes were taking place as scheduled at the college tonight, according to a message on the college's website.
According to NBC4, police at the scene told reporters the suspect was shot by officers who returned fire when the man opened fire on them as they chased him.
The officers began chasing the man because he was armed with a gun, police told the station.
