SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — A Southern California jury has rejected a bid to free a 74-year-old man convicted of molesting 10 boys.
City News Service says Orange County jurors on Wednesday found that Sidney Landau is a sexually violent predator and should remain at a state mental hospital in Coalinga where he's been held since 2000.
Landau has a decades-long history of confinements in prisons and mental hospitals. He was one of the first sex offenders targeted by California's Megan's Law. He petitioned for release in 2010 after a doctor concluded he wouldn't be a risk to the public because of his advancing age.
A judge last year granted him a new trial to decide if he should be released.
