The Communist Party in China is cracking down on smoking.
Party officials have told members to not smoke in public or buy cigarettes with public funds, and should encourage any colleagues who smoke to quit.
China is the world's biggest consumer of tobacco products. In 2008 the country pledged to ban smoking in public and government offices, but the rules weren't enforced. But now, party members who break the rules on cigarettes should be "criticized and educated about their evil influence," according to a government publication.
And party leaders are being told to deal with rule-breakers "severely."
