Microsoft Updates Software To Help Stop Distracted Driving

Microsoft is updating software to reduce distracted driving.

The next update to Windows Phone 8 will feature a new Driving Mode that will automatically silence incoming calls and texts so you can focus on the road.

You can also configure it to automatically send a reply that you're driving. It's activated when the phone links to a Bluetooth device in the car - if you want it to.

But the feature won't block calls or texts - you can still get the texts and people can leave voice mail.

Microsoft will also be adding another column and more information to the screens on larger phones.

New devices will start showing up in a few weeks, and older phones will be eligible for the free upgrade.
