A 31-year-old homeless man was near death Monday after he was beaten and shot by two alleged gang members in North Hills in a dispute over $50.
It happened Sunday when the homeless man was confronted near Nordhoff and Tobias Streets.
Police say one of two suspected gang members arrested for the attempted murder attacked the homeless man and a second pulled a handgun and shot the homeless man in the head.
“It seems to be some kind of monetary issue, somebody owed somebody some money or possibly stole money from someone else,” said LAPD Mission Area homicide detective Juan Santa.
“The victim was homeless but hung around that street and it appears that the gang members were probably also hanging around that street, so they knew each other on some type of level,” Santa said.
The homeless man was not expected to survive his wounds, Santa said.
