Former Dodger Owner's Gift

WASHINGTON (AP) — A former owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers is giving Georgetown University $100 million, the largest donation ever in the school's history, to create a public policy school.

The Washington Post reports the gift by Frank H. McCourt Jr., whograduated from Georgetown in 1975, is scheduled to be announced Wednesday. McCourt, who lives in New York City, sold the Dodgers last year for a reported $2.15 billion after taking the team into bankruptcy in 2011.

The donation surpasses the previous record $87 million gift to Georgetown in 2010.

The new school will be named the McCourt School of Public Policy and will launch in October. It will focus on analysis of massive data files from government agencies and other sources to research education, health, poverty and other subjects.
