Ex-Pro Boxer Charged With Killing Manager In 1987

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A former professional boxer who once fought the current world heavyweight champ has been arrested on suspicion of killing his manager 26 years ago.

Los Angeles police and the FBI arrested Exum Speight on Wednesday in the city of San Fernando. Police say the 50-year-old was wanted on a warrant after being charged with murder.

Detectives say DNA evidence helped lead to his arrest

It's not immediately clear whether Speight has an attorney.

Los Angeles County prosecutors claim he killed Douglas Stumler in 1987 at Stumler's West Los Angeles apartment.

Stumler worked for the county Housing Authority and sidelined as a boxing manager. He represented Speight for two years.

In 1996, nine years after the killing, Speight lost a bout to Wladimir Klitschko, who's currently the world heavyweight champion.
