Yelling at your kids may be bad for them.
There's a study in the Journal of Child Psychology that finds "harsh verbal discipline" like cursing, insulting, or shouting at kids can be as harmful as hitting or spanking.
The scientists kept track of nearly a thousand middle school student for two years that came from non-high risk families, and they found that yelling and bad behavior went together, kids who were yelled at were more likely to be depressed, and even kids in so-called "warm and loving" homes suffered some mental damage from being yelled at.
Some parents are pushing back, saying raising your voice is okay just don't insult or demean kids.
