Bill Would Allow Illegal Immigrants To Practice Law

A bill on Governor Brown's desk would allow people in the country illegally to become lawyers.

The bill passed out of the Assembly Thursday night on a 60-3 vote. It had already been approved in the Senate.

AB 1024 was co-authored by the California Latino Legislative Caucus. It's a direct response to the case of Sergio Garcia, which is currently before the state State Supreme Court.

Garcia who was brought to the U-S as a child. He passed the State Bar exam and fulfilled all other requirements to practice law, but his license was rescinded in 2011, two weeks after he got it, because he is not legally in the United States.
